Theme: THE DEGRADATION OF WETLANDS AND ITS SOCIO ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPLICATIONS IN NDOP CENTRAL SUBDIVISION, NORTH WEST PROVINCE CAMEROON
Page 80
factors like climate and species population explosion could directly or indirectly contribute to wetland degradation (W.W.F. 2004).
It can be concluded that the wetlands of Ndop Central Subdivision. have been highly degraded. Anthropogenic factors are responsible for this change and continue to exist in this area as a daily reality amongst a peasant population (estimated at 80%) who strive to satisfy their needs based on activities which they carry out directly on the natural milieu. These findings permitted us to attain the first objective set out in this chapter. The fall outs of wetland degradation could be either positive or negative both to the environment and to the local population. These aspects will be addressed in the next sections of this work which will be aimed at carrying out studies on the environmental and socio-economic implications of wetland degradation from Ndop Central Subdivision.
